What is Breakdown Cover?
Otherwise known as Breakdown Recovery, it covers you in the event of your vehicle becoming immobilised as a result of a mechanical / electrical breakdown or accident. Assistance can be provided at either the roadside or your normal place of residence. Up to one hour’s free labour will be given. If your vehicle cannot be repaired, it will be towed to the nearest competent repairer.

Do I need Breakdown Cover?
Yes, it is certainly very good value for money and if you don’t have it you may regret it. Every year thousands of motorists find themselves stranded on the side of the road after a breakdown. Winter months are always the worst for cars breaking down due to the effect of bad weather on your car’s mechanics. However with the aid of a mobile phone and breakdown cover, assistance can be just minutes away.

Are there any restrictions on the type of vehicle that can be covered?
Yes, the service is restricted to private car or commercial vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes and under 12 years old. It must have an MOT certificate.

What is not covered by the service?
The major exclusions of the service means that we will not cover punctures, lost keys or fuel shortage. Please read the Exclusions and Limitations section.

Does the service cover me to drive any vehicle or just my own vehicle?
The service only covers the named vehicle recorded by your broker. If you have multiple vehicles on your policy you will have to pay a charge for each vehicle.

When can I use the Breakdown Service?
The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. You can use the service up to 3 times during the currency of your insurance policy.

What area does it cover?
Anywhere in the UK and Republic of Ireland

How long will it take for a Recovery Operator to come out to help me?
It is expected that a Recovery Operator will be with you within the hour in the vast majority of breakdowns.

Does CRASH have their own recovery vehicles?
No, CRASH use Independent Recovery Operators who are members of a Trade body called The Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators Limited. AVRO was established in 1977. It is the only representative body with a recognised set of standards and their members cover all of the UK and Republic of Ireland.

How does this service compare with other Breakdown services like RAC & AA?
The CRASH Accident & Breakdown Service is a very competitive product. A similar service offered by the AA called 100 plus, which offers Homestart and Roadside assistance costs £75.60
